James Hardy Wilkinson, FRS

I love this photo of James Hardy Wilkinson, the great numerical analyst and computer scientist.  Something not so commonly known is that Wilkinson's ability to get along with Alan Turing helped bring the Automatic Computing Engine, which was designed by Turing, to fruition.

strange to see ones uncle viewed this way! Always known as Uncle Jim!

I'd love to hear stories about your famous uncle, if you wouldn't mind sharing! Computer science and numerical analysis grew up together, and he had a lot to do with that. His writing is clear and still very much worth reading, even though both computers and algorithms have advanced a lot since then.
